Starting off Thursday with dinner from last night - this is a New York slice(s) from the pizza place downstairs from our apt. It was sooo good - really, the cheese is different, it's creeeeamy goodness.
The second picture is Thomas in front of the Globe sculpture that used to be in the plaza of the WTC towers. It was in the center of the fountain there, and they found it, and have erected it in Battery Park with an eternal flame. After we got this pic we found some shade and had some ice cream and italian ice before getting on the ferry to Liberty Island. It's a HOT NYC day - even our tour guide (later) said that they didn't usually have days like this until August, it's a steam heat here.
Third picture with Lady Liberty herself. Just a quick tour of the island, and then back on the boat. We had tickets to the Circle Line cruise, but we'd had enough boat and we really wanted to be able to see Ground Zero. We did a walking tour from the WTC Tribute Visitor's Center. It was fabulous and intense. If you go to the city, I would recommend it highly! Highlight of my trip so far, the tour is given by survivors that were there that day, and hearing it from them gives you a whole new set of eyes on something that you thought you understood.
But I got ahead of myself - first we walked from Battery Park to Ground Zero, and on the way we went by Wall Street and the Bull... and we bought some cool shades from a street vendor. He even cleaned them for us. :)
The last picture is from Ground Zero - the building being erected is the new Tower One (they've decided not to call it "Freedom Tower") - and behind it, the shiny building is the new Tower 7. There were 7 buildings in the original WTC, and all of them were destroyed in the attack. I have pictures of the new layout compared with the old layout - there will be a waterfall/fountain monument in the footprint of the original towers, the water will look like it's falling into the squares.
Awesome pics. Sounds like you 3 are having a great time. Thanks for sharing!
